Written by Willow Lang and Daniel Mervis, College Captains
Yesterday, our entire High School came together for a special combined Tefillah to honour the memory of the six Israeli hostages whose bodies were recently recovered from Gaza. It was a moment of reflection and unity, a powerful reminder of the strength of our community. In times like these, we truly appreciate the significance of coming together during moments of deep sorrow and in celebration. As the new College Captains, we feel a profound sense of responsibility to lead our school with pride and passion and we are especially excited to share what’s coming up next for our Moriah community.
On 24 September, our Moriah community will unite to celebrate the incredible journey of our school. The event isn’t just a Capital Appeal for a new building—although that’s definitely a key part of the evening—it’s a chance to tell the story of Moriah College in a way that will leave a lasting impression on everyone who attends. This story is one of growth, continuity, and a shared commitment to ensuring that Moriah continues to thrive for generations to come.
When we talk about Moriah, we’re not just talking about buildings. We’re talking about a community that has grown remarkably over the years, in numbers, spirit, and legacy. What started as a small school in Bellevue Hill, that our parents attended, has evolved into a thriving campus that now spans from ELC to Year 12. The new building project we’re fundraising for is both an architectural upgrade and an investment in the future of our community. It will ensure that Moriah continues to provide a high-quality Jewish education that fosters the growth of future generations as learners and leaders.
Having moved to Moriah College in High School and being exposed to a new community, we have experienced firsthand how Moriah has a unique way of nurturing development, both academically and personally. The lifelong friendships that are made at Moriah College are extremely special. Students at Moriah are very privileged to attend a school with children of their parents’ friends. This progression is something truly special. It’s a testament to the lasting connections that Moriah fosters among students and alumni. Our families are intertwined, and the friendships that began at school often span generations.
One of the highlights of the night will be the presence of 100 alumni, spanning more than three decades, who will come together to perform. Many of them are now parents themselves demonstrating the continuity and growth of our community. Their participation in this event is a reminder that Moriah is not just a school; it’s a lifelong community.
The presentation on the night will walk us through a timeline of the school’s history, offering a glimpse into how Moriah has evolved over the years. It’s a story of resilience, innovation, and commitment to our shared values. From its humble beginnings to the expansive campus we know today, Moriah’s journey is one that not many people fully appreciate. This event will change that—it’s an opportunity to witness the camaraderie, the atmosphere, and the spirit that makes Moriah so special.
The night transcends raising money and celebrating our past. It’s about uniting, coming together as a community to ensure that Moriah continues to grow and thrive. We want people to attend to experience the magic of Moriah firsthand. The new facilities we’re building are for future generations of students who will become part of this incredible legacy.
So, we invite you to join us on 24 September. Come and see how Moriah has grown in size and in spirit. Come and witness the history of Moriah’s passion and ongoing determination in providing a quality education for its valued community, from the early days in Bellevue Hill to the flourishing campus we have today. Come and be a part of the next chapter in Moriah’s story. It’s going to be a night to remember, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Please make sure you book your tickets soon by clicking here.
