Dear Moriah Community
I am honoured to step into the role of College President at such a pivotal and vibrant time for our institution. For me, Moriah is one of the most important institutions in the Jewish community. It is a beacon that creates continuity, fosters awareness, and keeps us focused on our traditions and religion. Since my arrival in Sydney 18 years ago, it has been my calling to be involved in this institution, and I credit much of the success of my family’s integration into our community to Moriah. It was the first place our children attended a few weeks after we arrived and each of my children received a wonderful education here, made lifelong friends, and thrived in an environment that I can only describe as the central piece of our community.
The role of the Board of Directors is to ensure that the strategy we agree upon with the College Executive team is delivered effectively and successfully. Our job is to protect the continuity of our ethos and to ensure that the school is well-funded, and the team is well resourced. This means that we are committed to empowering our College Executive to employ the best teachers and provide all the physical resources necessary to give our students the best possible educational experiences.
In these challenging global times, filled with hate and antisemitism thinly disguised as anti-Zionism, Moriah stands as a fortress for our children. It builds their knowledge, resilience, strength, and confidence in being Jewish. One of my primary goals as President is to ensure that the formal teaching of advocacy is prioritised. This will enable our children to stand up confidently and articulate why Israel is our state, understand her history, and protect themselves against the hate they may encounter. Advocacy is crucial, and I am dedicated to giving our children the confidence to proudly declare their identity as strong Zionist Jewish individuals.
My presidency will focus on continuous improvement and excellence in everything we do. My goal is for the Board of Directors to work closely with Mrs Mira Hasofer and the entire College team to ensure we are providing world-class education and achieving the best possible outcomes for every single child. At Moriah, it’s not just about achieving high marks. Our students need to emerge as well-rounded individuals who are academically accomplished and contribute to both the Jewish and the broader Australian community. They should be Moriah Menschen—a term that beautifully encapsulates the kind of individuals we aim to nurture.
I am fortunate to take on this role at a time when the school is in a great place. The pieces of the puzzle are working well, thanks to the excellent foundations laid over the past five years. That being said, there are many opportunities for improvement, and I aim to build on these strong foundations and strive for continuous enhancement. It is a privilege to lead Moriah and I thank you for your continued support. I look forward to working together to achieve the best possible outcomes for our community and each of our children.
Warm regards
Robbie Blau
